Aniso Specialist Medical Centre is a multi-specialty healthcare facility dedicated to providing high-quality medical care with a patient-centered approach. Originally founded as Aniso Specialist Clinic in 1996, the facility was registered as a medical centre in 2003 after relocating to its current site at No. 11 2nd Federal Road, Off S&T road, Uselu, Benin city.

ABOUT THE MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Dr. Peter Femi Ugbodaga, the Medical Director of Aniso Specialist Medical centre, was born in Enwan in Akoko-Edo LGA of Edo state in 1957. He attended St. Patrick Catholic Primary School, Enwan where he was the Senior Prefect and had Primary School Certificate in 1968 with Distinction. He attended Our Lady of Fatima Grammar School, Auchi and obtained a Division 1 with Distinction in the WAEC, June 1973. He also attended Edo College, Benin city (Higher school). He was admitted into University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) with Federal Government Scholarship in 1974 and obtained a B.Sc. Hons (2nd Class Upper Division) in 1978 and an M.B; CH.B in 1981.

He had his Post-graduate studies in Internal Medicine at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital and the Renal Unit of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital’s Complex, Ile-Ife from 1997 to 1993 as a supernumerary Resident from Edo State Hospitals’ Management Board, where he returned in 1993. He became a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians – FWACP (Int. Med.) in 1993.

He has contributed tremendously to the development of healthcare in Edo state where he established the first Renal Dialysis Centre in the state when he was the Consultant Nephrologist-In-Charge, The Dialysis Centre, Central Hospital, Benin city from 2003 – 2010. He also served as Chief Medical Director of Central Hospital, Benin city; Director of Clinical Services/Chief Consultant of the Hospitals’ Management Board from November 2009 – March 2010; Acting Commissioner for Health from February 2011 – September 2011, November 2012 – April 2013 and November 2016 – May 2017; and Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Edo state where he served for over 7 years, to name a few.

He registered with NAN as Associate in 1991 and full member 1993 and is actively involved in annual kidney day activities of NAN. He has supervised Part II dissertations for followships in Nephrology.

He has served in several capacities including:

  • State House Physician/Personal Physician to the Governor, Government House, Benin city from November 1994 – May – 1999, 2003 – November 2016
  • Secretary, Faculty of Internal Medicine, West African College of Physicians (Nigerian Chapter), 2001 – 2005
    College Faculty Secretary, Faculty of Internal Medicine, West African College of Physicians, 2003 – 2006
  • Chairman, Committee on Research, Publications and Ethics, Edo State Ministry of Health, October 2008 – 2010.
  • Chairman, Therapeutics Committee, Edo State Essential Drugs Project, July 2008 – 2010.
  • Project Manager, Global HIV/AIDS Nigeria (GHAIN), Central Hospital, Benin city, November 2004 – 2010.
  • Member, Accreditation Team, West African College of Physicians (Faculty of Internal Medicine), 2000 – till date.
  • Examiner, Fellowship Postgraduate Examinations (Faculty of Internal Medicine), West African College of Physicians, March 2005 – till date.
  • Member, Board of Governors, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin city, 2010 – 2015.
  • Member, Board of Trustees, Itohan Health Care Trust, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin city, Edo state.

He has attended several conferences, workshops, seminars and courses within and outside the country.

He is a recipient of several scholarships and awards including:

  • Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
  • Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Alumni Association Benin Branch Distinguished Alumni Award.
  • University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Board of Management Award of Excellence.
  • Federal Government of Nigeria Merit Scholarship Award in Medicine, 1975 – 1981.
  • Justice of the Peace (JP) by the Government of Edo state, 22nd February, 2007.
  • Our Lady of Fatima College, Auchi Old Boys Association Golden Jubilee Award, 2010.
  • Merit Award, Our Lady of Fatima College Auchi, Old Boys’ Association, Benin city, 24th January, 2009.
  • Bendel State Government of Nigeria Post-Secondary School Automatic Scholarship Award for Distinction Candidates, 1974-1975.

He has served as External Examiner to the University of Benin, visiting lecturer/Clinical Consultant to the College of Medicine, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer, Department of Medicine, College of Health Sciences, Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo state.

He is a Life Fellow of the West African College of Physicians, a Life Fellow of Nigerian Association of Nephrology and a member of Several Professional Organisations including Nigerian Association of Nephrology, Hypertension Society of Nigeria and the Nigerian Medical Association.

He has several publications in scientific and peer-reviewed journals to his credit.

He was a member of Ifemed Journal Club, 1978 – 1991; Quiz Club, Ife University Medical School, 1979 – 1981; Ife Member, Club Tudmont, University of Ife, Ile-Ife. Chief Tudscribe, 1980 – 1981. He is currently a Member of the Benin Club. 

He loves swimming, cycling, playing basketball, chess, watching football and reading.

He is happily married with 4 children.
